Dr. Geralyn Janice is a dedicated educational leader currently serving as the
Instructional Site Coordinator at the SOWELA Technical Community College's Lamar Salter Campus in Leesville. In this role, she oversees the coordination and
administration of instructional programs, ensuring the delivery of high-quality education to students.
In her previous role as Campus Dean for Central Louisiana Technical Community
College, she provided strategic leadership and was instrumental in implementing
academic policies, managing faculty and staff, and fostering a supportive learning
environment. While simultaneously serving as Campus Dean, Dr. Janice was also the
Carl Perkins Grant Administrator for the college. In this capacity, she managed grant
applications and allocations to support career and technical education programs,
ensuring compliance with federal guidelines and enhancing educational opportunities
for students.
Dr. Janice's higher education career was career launched through her work with the
WorkReadyU Adult Education Program—an experience she considers as the catalyst
for her lifelong commitment to expanding educational opportunity. Her work continues to center access, belonging, and success across diverse backgrounds and lived
experiences. She is driven by a passion for people and firmly believes that the
education and training provided by local community colleges are pivotal in offering
impactful solutions to longstanding socioeconomic challenges.
Dr. Janice believes that thriving communities should matter to everyone and actively
works to support economic and social growth in her region. Recognizing the essential
role of local community involvement, she serves on the Board of Directors for the
Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce. She also serves as Chair of the Vernon Parish
Development District.
Dr. Janice is a proud mother of three. Her daughter, Major Andrea Kelly, is currently Active-Duty RMY, continuing the family's tradition of military service (3rd generation). Her sons, Raymond and Isaiah, are successful entrepreneurs operating several businesses in Atlanta, Georgia reflecting her belief that everyone should be empowered to choose their path to success. She is also the proud grandmother of one grandson, Wesley, whom she calls the sparkle in her eye.
Dr. Janice is a graduate of Northwestern State University (NSU), where she earned her
Doctor of Education, Master of Arts in Adult Education, and a Bachelor of Science in
Psychology. Her "Addressing and Closing Equity Gaps" dissertation research earned her the 2022 Outstanding Research in Education Award.
Dr. Janice recently published her first book, PATENTS, PLOWS, AND PERSISTENCE,
a narrated story about resilience deeply rooted in soil.
Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Janice enjoys vacationing with her family, which helps her maintain a balanced and fulfilling life.
